Oakland Temple Visitors’ Center Renovated Exhibit
God's Plan For His Family

The newly renovated exhibit, God's Plan For His Family, now follows a family from birth of the first child through temple marriage. In heart- warming words and music, understanding is given regarding the eternal importance of families and how we are all part of God's family now and forever. This exhibit teaches us how to return to live with Him. While raising children and having a strong marriage in today's world can almost seem impossible, learning and following God's plan for our families will bring us true joy.

Production Details

The Easter oratorio Lamb of God by Rob Gardner, will again be presented for Easter 2012 by the Temple Hill Choir, Temple Hill Symphony, 13 vocal soloists, 1 cello soloist, and 2 narrators.

For Easter 2011, the Temple Hill Choir and Symphony presented the California premiere of Rob Gardner's magnificent oratorio, Lamb of God.  Those participating--whether as audience or performers--were united in their love of this music. Rob Gardner has written an oratorio that not only tells the Easter story of the final days of the Savior's earthly ministry, but also helps us understand that meaning to us. Rob helps us understand each person's view of those very special events, from Peter's denial and real testimony of Jesus to Mary's understanding of the blessedness of his sacrifice. Thirteen soloists bring the music and story to life. Jesus Christ is not portrayed by a singer on the stage, instead a cello soloist represents the Savior in the music, helping us feel His presence and spirit throughout.

To hear clips of the music, click on the link below,  and then select PREVIEW, and listen to samples of the solos, choir, and rich orchestral writing:  http://www.spiremusic.net/servlet/Detail?no=66.

Over 3,200 people saw Lamb of God in 2011. Once again, the Temple Hill Choir and Temple Hill Symphony together with guests from other Bay Area churches present this inspirational music for Easter 2012. Currently, four performances are scheduled for the first two weekends in April, including performances at both the Catholic Cathedral of Christ the Light of the Oakland Diocese and at the Oakland Interstake Center Auditorium next to the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Tickets are free to all and will be available online starting in late February at  TempleHillEvents.com, as well as through links at the Oakland Diocese websites.

Auditions - Vocal and Instrumental Soloists (COMPLETED)
Musicians from all Christian churches in the Bay Area are invited to participate in Lamb of God. These Interfaith performances are being hosted by the Catholic and LDS Churches of Oakland, but all are welcome to attend as performers or as audience.  All vocal and orchestra positions are volunteer only, with no paid positions.  Participation is through audition only. Vocal and instrumental soloists should be prepared to provide a history of their solo performances and to audition with a song that shows their range and technique as a soloist.

Choir and Orchestra Auditions
The choir is an integral part of this oratorio. Rob Gardner has written this oratorio in a style similar to Les Miserables where there is much more interaction between the choir and soloists than a more traditional oratorio like Messiah. While the music is not overly difficult for experienced choir members, there are a few challenging parts, including some singing in Hebrew and some a challenging range for the highest sopranos and tenors. The choir music is dramatic and stunning at times.

Choir and orchestra members should also come prepared to sing or play a song that shows their technique. Choir members will be given a range check to allow placement in the appropriate choir section. Choir members must be able to learn and carry their part independently of others and commit to participate in most preparatory rehearsals, plus ALL dress rehearsals and performances. Experience singing in a choir with the ability to blend with the choir are required. Those current members of the Temple Hill Choir will also undergo a range check, placement in the choir, and be expected to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule.

Current members of the Temple Hill Symphony are requested to confirm their participation. Additional instrumentalists will be added as necessary to ensure coverage of all required parts. Rehearsals for the Symphony members will begin in early February and will be posted on both the THSymphony.org and TempleHillEvents.com websites.

Lamb of God Staff
Alan Chipman will conduct Lamb of God for all performances again in 2012.  Assistant directors, Steve Zapiain, James Chipman, and Jennifer Brown will assist with orchestra, choir, and soloist rehearsals. They will be assisted by Larry Petersen on piano and other accompanists as needed.  Greg Casper is producer.  The Temple Hill Cultural Arts Committee and Temple Hill Public Affairs Council will provide support through Lissa Werson and others, along with Publicity and Marketing staff for the Oakland Diocese and the American Red Cross. For more information, contact Greg Casper at greg@ccrecording.com or Alan Chipman at templechoir@hotmail.com.
